A fund raising concert was held over the weekend at the Ladi Kwali hall of the Sheraton hotels in Abuja to rekindle the ‘Save Meka Campaign’.
Meka Akerejola is a Rhythm FM Abuja On-Air-Personality who was diagnosed with kidney failure and needs about N9m for a transplant.
On Sunday, September 23, 2012, the show organised by Yankee Entertainment and all radio stations in Abuja featured star comedians Julius Agwu, Mr Ibu, MC Amana and AY. Music artists M.I, Durella, Nollywood stars, Stella Damasus and Francis Duru among others were present at the occasion.
One of the organisers, Kehinde Adegite aka ‘Mr Yankee’ who spoke to NET
explained that the turn out for the show was low although some funds
were generated outside the ticket charges. They did not hit the intended
target. He also commended the celebrities for making cash donations.
Meka still needs about N2m to complete the money for the transplant due for the end of October.
Sources close to Meka allege that his employers Silverbird group are yet to make any contribution.
The 31-year-old graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was diagnosed with high blood pressure in 2010 and after further tests was discovered to have a failed kidney.
