Celebrity relationships and marriages often inspire longing in the hearts of fans, who pore over the couple’s pictures on social media, keep abreast of every story in the tabloids and envy their latest acquisitions including babies.

However, even as we admire the celebrity couple when they pose hand in hand on red carpets, we can’t help but predict their inevitable break-up. The reasons are numerous and sometimes very creative: ‘irreconcilable differences”, infidelity, domestic abuse etc. We take a look at 10 of Nigeria’s famous celebrity coupling that infamously crashed despite the hullabaloo made about them in the media.
1. Toke Makinwa and Maje Ayida

In 2015, rumours of Maje Ayida’s affair with a Port Harcourt-based woman hit social media and was later confirmed by Toke Makinwa herself via her close friends such as celebrity stylist Swanky Jerry, and cryptic messages to her fans, thanking them for their support, on her social media pages.
The radio on-air-personality soon separated from her husband, who was forced to apologise publicly to her while begging for privacy so they could better handle their affairs.
However, in December the couple were seen together at an event, leading to criticism from Toke’s feminist fans, who felt she should have dumped her cheating husband for good.
2. Tuface Idibia and Pero Adeniyi

The Nigerian music industry most notorious baby daddy, 2Baba as he is now called, has seven kids from three women – six out of wedlock.
The pop star, who is now firmly settled with one of the mothers of his children and then long-time, long suffering girlfriend, Annie Idibia, however, last year was rumoured to still be involved with another baby mama, Pero Adeniyi. The US-based Nigerian socialite has three kids for 2baba.

While some fans hit out at 2baba for failing to stay faithful to Annie even in marriage, others hit out at Pero for refusing to let go.
Annie on her part chose to take the highroad, releasing a statement on Instagram, affirming that “this momentary indiscretion poses no threat whatsoever to my relationship with my husband.”
Point Annie. And with that it may seem that Pero finally knows her place.
3. 9ice and Toni Payne

The previously loved-up couple’s break-up was one of the more controversial as it involved a rumoured third party, rapper Ruggedman, and a now infamous song, Once Bitten Twice Shy, off 9ice’s second album Tradition.
Six years after their separation as a result of the drama, Tony Payne, who has a child, Zion, with 9ice declared her innocence of the cheating rumours and forgiveness for the singer in a lengthy piece she posted on social media.
In reaction, 9ice belatedly affirmed her innocence, blamed himself for not speaking earlier and asked for his former wife’s forgiveness.
We await Ruggedman’s statement.
4. Toyin Aimakhu and Adeniyi Johnson

The actors were married in 2013 with an enviable wedding ceremony. Almost immediately after, the rumors started flying of infidelity on Adeniyi’s part.
It all soon played out on social media, with both spouses sending cryptic and explicit messages to each other to the delight and chagrin of their fans.
Adeniyi publicly confessed his indiscretion and asked Toyin’s fans to plead for her forgiveness on his behalf. Toyin has since moved out of her matrimonial home and is runmoured to be dating someone else.
5. John and Abigail Fashanu

This was one of the uglier celebrity break-ups that played out in the media – both local and international, There were accusations of lesbianism, domestic abuse and attempted murder flying around; actually, from British-Nigerian ex-football star John Fashanu towards his ex-wife, Abigail, mother of Joseph Yobo’s wife, Adaeze.
The controversial ex-footballer, after washing his dirty linens in public, is now in another relationship and is reportedly engaged.
6. Funke Akindele and Kehinde Oloyede

Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, known for her famous alter ego Jenifa and the movie and TV series, became the third wife of businessman, Kehinde Oloyede aka Almoroof, in a glamorous celebrity wedding in 2012.
Months after, reports of Almoroof’s numerous infidelities were flying around including rumours that he wasn’t living with his newly wedded wife.
Funke, despite being married to a polygamist, however, couldn’t stand the heat and soon opted out.
7. Saheed and Fathia Balogun

The two Yoruba movie stars’ marriage crashed amidst rumours of infidelity but Fathia kept her ex-husband’s surname, Balogun.
8. Monalisa Chinda and Dejo Richards

Their marriage lasted for about five years and produced a daughter but ended as a result of incompatibility and irreconcilable differences, based on a statement by Chinda’s lawyer, Festus Keyamo.
The actress also stated that for the sake of her daughter she would not reval details of her breakup. Her ex-husband has since re-married and Chinda reportedly has new lover she is looking to marry soon.
9. Foluke Daramola, Tunde Shobowale and Olukayode Salako

Yoruba actress Foluke Daramola married Tunde Shobowale in 2005. The marriage lasted for just three years and produced two kids. Seven years later, she married Olukayode Salako. There have been rumours that her new man is cheating on her and she is also having extra marital affairs. But going by their pictures on social media, both appear blissfully unaware of the rumours preferring to engage in PDA.
10. Ice Prince and Maima
The Chocolate City vice president is latest celebrity embroiled in a scandal owing to his romantic relationship. His girlfriend, Maima, is reportedly engaged in extra marital-affairs with an “Abuja big boy”.
Ice Prince at first publicly defended his lady but when the evidence were leaked to the media, he had to publicly break up with her. in the eyes of the public severally but when everything appeared so obvious he dropped some heartbroken tweets to end the infamous relationship.
