NFF to review the duties of assistant coaches
The federation is on a cost-cutting mission
Duties of the assistant coaches of all the national teams will be reviewed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), a top official of the football house revealed exclusively to
The NFF is obviously broke and have been unable to pay the salaries of coaches and players; this has made the Federation to engage all assistant coaches on a part-time basis.
This new structure is open to a future review, the source explained:
“I can reveal to you that the federation pocket is dry, all through last year we did not make any extra income and it has been so difficult for us to get a lot of things done”
“It has become so embarrassing that we have to start cutting down cost to enable us manage our little funds properly as you know we have important matches ahead,” the source who pleaded anonymity said.
In line with the cost-cutting system that has been adopted the federation decided to cut down on the engagement of all assistant coaches in the national teams.
“They are to only work when players are gathered in camp or whenever there is an official assignment.”
“This new system can still change but for now that has to be the new style of operation.”
The source further disclosed that these coaches will not earn any money and will be free to continue working with their respective coaches.
“Look, the truth is this, we are just paying these assistant coaches for doing absolutely nothing whenever they are not in camp and are free to work elsewhere when the camp is not in session”
“We can only pay them for services rendered and that is it, no going back.”
When  asked about the code of conduct for the national team coaches, the source said that assistant coaches do not have such things.
Meanwhile,  that his life was in danger. According to reports, it was alleged that some people are after his life in Nigeria and Oliseh is beginning to think twice about his health.
“Oliseh no longer feels safe being in Nigeria. Recall that all through the team’s camping for CHAN 2016 in Abuja, he refused to show up but was the first to hit South Africa for the second phase of camping in Pretoria.
“After his team lost out of CHAN, he left for Belgium on the excuse that he had to go and continue treatment for his flu. That action speaks volumes about his fears.”
However, in a swift reaction, NFF media officer, Ademola Olajire stated that it is all rumour.
“Did Oliseh not grow up here in Nigeria, so why would he be afraid of anyone in Nigeria? Agreed that Nigerians are very passionate about football and would castigate any coach that does not produce results but that is not enough for anyone to insinuate that his life is in danger.”
