Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Stephen Keshi has announced his list of players for the 2013 African Nations cup and 2014 FIFA world cup qualifier. Expected names such as Chelsea FC midfielder Mikel Obi, West Brom striker Osaze Odemwinge and Yakubu Aiyegbeni weren’t on the list, despite their success in the recently concluded season.
Some of the players invited are: Goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, Austin Ejide, Joseph Yobo , Elderson Echiejile, Victor Moses, Fegor Ogude, Omatsone Aluko, Ahmed Musa, and John Utaka.
While speaking at a press conference in
Abuja, Keshi explained that his choice of players was based on
availability and fitness, adding that he believes he has the best team
to play for the country.
Osaze will be getting married around the time Nigeria battles Namibia in Calabar on June 3, but his reason for dropping Queens Park Ranger’s Taiye Taiwo was not explained.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles will be playing
against Peru on May 23, 2012 in an international friendly match, in
preparation for their matches against Namibia and Rwanda, to be played
in June.
