The renovations going on in the home of the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, will take about four months to be completed.
The information was made available by the site architect, Miss Bunmi,
who tells us the one-storey building will be turned into a museum after
the conclusion of the renovation. She disclosed that the project is
sponsored by Lagos State government and the plan is to turn the building into a museum that will give visitors a feel of what it is like to be in Fela’s world.
She added that as much as so many things
will be changed, the building will still stay true to its originality
as some things will remain untampered with.
The museum when completed will have a
gallery where Fela’s pictures and artifacts will be kept, a souvenir
shop, a bar, lounge, few hotel rooms and a space for performances.
Meanwhile, daughter of the late singer, Yeni
has expressed satisfaction with the success achieved with the
renovation. She revealed this in a chat with one of our correspondents.
‘We had written the proposal to the people that brought Fela on Broadway last year, but they didnt do anything about it, so this time, we approached the Lagos State government and it was accepted‘.
Speaking on what people should expect after the renovation, Yeni
expressed high hopes, stating that she is sure people would like the
result as it has a lot to offer.
The house which is located on Gbemisola
street, Ikeja, in Lagos, was occupied by the legendary singer until his
death in August 1997.
