The Lagos state government has called on local residents to recognize that it is working to consolidate the improvements it has made in fighting crime in Nigeria’s largest city.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, made the call at the end of the monthly state security council meeting chaired by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
Owoseni said the council agreed to build on the momentum of successes with the view to safeguarding lives and property, as well as to maintain a safer environment for investment and business.
“As you all know, one part of the tripod upon which the state government built its policy thrust is security,” he said
“We have once again looked at what is happening security wise; the gains recorded especially with the successful hosting of the Lagos Marathon held last Saturday.
“Looking at that, we have considered and agreed that there is need to build on the momentum and further improve on what we are doing in order to keep Lagos state safer and more secure in order to attract investment which will also translate into employment for people in Lagos.”
Owoseni went on to describe the ‘Light Up Lagos’ project as a big plus for security.
“It is one of those key things with which we can prevent crime. Apart from the aesthetical value that you gain in it by making everywhere beautiful, you are also preventing crime when the places are lit up at night,” he said.
“It helps in prevention of crime and its detection as well.”
He called on Lagosians to be law-abiding citizens who can accept that the security situation in the state will improve.
