– The zonal APC asked for 5 things from the President
– The zonal APC said the recent Supreme Court judgements reward election riggers and proponents of electoral violence
– Supreme court had ruled against the APC in the governorship elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta
The south-south executive committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari following the recent Supreme Court ruling on the Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta governorship elections.
The Supreme Court ruled against the APC in the governorship elections in Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Delta.
The zonal chairman of the APC, Prince Hillard Eta, who chaired the meeting asserted that the various judgements were retrogressive and have done irreparable damage to the country’s democracy.
The south-south APC said the Supreme Court judgements reward election riggers, proponents of electoral violence and political assassins.
The zonal committee then asked President Buhari to constitute a high-powered inquiry to ascertain the incorruptibility and sanity of the Supreme Court.
“We exhort him to take advantage of the law that allows him to appoint from the Bar, incorruptible and patriotic private practitioners to the Supreme Court. This will help to dilute the tendencies of the PDP appointed Judges.
“We also request Mr President to be very through and circumspect in filling the position of CJN at the retirement of the present one in June. For us, patriotism and incorruptibility is far more necessary than seniority or rank.
“We urge the National Assembly to accelerate the amendment of the electoral act and other statues that are germane to an acceptable and sustainable electoral process,” the party said.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Magu, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has accused prominent lawyers of frustrating the ongoing war against corruption.
The EFCC boss took a swipe at members of the inner bar on Wednesday, February 10, when the national executive of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) paid him a courtesy call in his office at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
