According to an employee of the station who spoke anonymously, a 40,000-liter tanker laden with petroleum caught fire while unloading.
The source said: “The good thing is that it did not affect anyone as those on duty ran for safety.”
He stated that the cause of the fire was as yet unknown, as men of the state fire service and Dutse international airport were on the ground to put out the fire.
As of press-time, Malam Balarabe, the supervisor of the gutted station, could not be reached.
However, Malam Muhammad Fari, the state commandant of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), confirmed the incident.
Malam Fari told pressmen that he had since deployed his men to the scene of the incident.
In the last eight days there have been two fire incidents involving NNPC tankers and petrol stations. On Tuesday, January 12, an NNPC tanker caught fire in Abuja while discharging fuel at a filling station along Abdulsalami Abukakar way in Apo.
