Minister of water resources, Suleiman Adamu

The federal government has expressed its readiness  to work with more foreign investors that would improve the  Nigerian economy.

The minister of water resources, Suleiman Adamu stated this in Abuja on Tuesday, January 26 at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Peoples Democratic Peoples Republic of China.

Speaking on the long standing relationship between both countries, the minister urged improved collaborations that would assist Nigeria in the areas of water supply as well as agriculture.

He said:  “The ministry is currently facing a lot of challenges in its irrigation facilities, maintenance of dams and capacity building.  These calls for urgent attention by both countries in discussing the MoU.”

“We are a developing country and we are ready to borrow from your experiences in advancing our irrigation facilities and farms infrastructures in meeting with the present government thrust for agricultural revolution.” 

“We need assistance from investors to turn the fortunes of the country, so we are open to more investors in the country especially in agriculture, solid minerals and water as no one can talk about agriculture without water.  We are doing everything possible to support the agriculture policy of the Federal Government,” he added.

In his remarks, the ambassador of China, Jong Yong Chol emphasized on the water to the socio-economic growth of any nation.

He expressed China’s readiness to develop its water ways, irrigation facilities and other water resources management as well as dams, irrigation and civil Engineers. 

The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muhammad Bello has said that the he would ensure residents of the city have access to clean potable water. The minister stated this while inspecting facilities at the lower Usman dam in Abuja.
