A
second year student of Benkum Senior High School in the Eastern region
of Ghana has been allegedly gang raped by seven boys of the school.
The gruesome act is believed to have taken place last Saturday on the premises of the school.
The incident was reported to the school authorities on Monday who in turn reported it to the police on Tuesday for the law to take its course.
Citi News reporter Juanita Sallah who visited the school when the story broke said two boys who were part of the gang have been arrested while another two are being invited for questioning.
The victim who is in her teens has given her statement to the police for further investigations after she left the hospital.
“She is traumatised and she tells me she is not in the right frame of mind,” our correspondent said.
She told our reporter that she accompanied a friend to deliver a book to another person who was waiting for her in one of the classrooms and it was then that she was ambushed.
The obviously distraught young lady did not report the incident to the school authorities when it happened and it is believed she did so to protect either her interest or the interest of one of the boys who is believed to be her ex-boyfriend.
The Public Relations Officer of DOVVSU, Freeman Tettey, told Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday that the case has come to their notice and investigation is ongoing.
“I can’t say a case of rape has been established against the students but a case has been lodged. The school authorities lodged the complaint to the police,” he said.
