– The 2016 January transfer window closed at 11pm GMT on Monday 1 February
– Here are the five biggest deals of the 2016 January transfer window
5. Jonjo Shelvey – Swansea City to Newcastle for £12million.
A very surprising move for all invloved including the plaer who could not explain why he was sold or why he played less this season. An England international, Shelvey has impressed for the Magpies since signing.
4.Oumar Niasse moved from Lokomotiv to Everton for £13.5million.
One of the best strikers in Russia will compete with Romelu Lukaku for a starting berth in the team. His signing makes sense after attackers Aiden McGeady and Steven Naismith left the club.
3. Gianelli Imbula joined Stoke City from Porto for £18.3million.
The big deal of the January window in England was the deadline day deal which saw Stoke paying £18.3million for Imbula from Porto. A steady performer, Imbula will improve an already impressive Stoke City outfit.
2. Jiangsu Suning signed Ramires from Chelsea for £25 million.
Ramires was a loyal servant to Chelsea foe five years. Known for his high work rate and stamina, the midfielder joins Guarin in China. Rumoured to be earning almost twice as what he earned at Chelsea.
1. Alex Teixeira was signed by Jiangsu Suning from Shakhtar Donetsk for £38 million.
A club statement read: “Shakhtar Donetsk and Jiangsu Suning FC have agreed on all the necessary formalities for the transfer of Alex Teixeira to the Chinese club. Transfer fee for the Brazilian midfielder is €50million. Shakhtar thank Alex for the time spent in the team and wish him success at his new club.”
Liverpool has offered £24million for the Brazilian player. However, according to Shakhtar, Alex Teixeira’s release clause was £50 million.
Despite the desire of the player to leave the Ukranian club, Shakhtar said: “They offered €32 million (£24m) with a €4m (£3m) bonus. We obviously refused to accept it. Our position is that we do not want to sell Teixeira today. We will sell only at the end of the season – we need to show serious results in Europa League and Ukrainian Championship. At the end of the season we will sit down at the negotiating table. His buyout clause is €70m. [Liverpool] can pay it now if they want. We don’t mind”.
Klopp reacted: “But it was a case of, ‘If you don’t want it, OK, we can’t change the situation, both for now and the future’. It’s not that we haven’t got money or anything, but you have to work respectfully and responsibly. That’s what we do. “We will do things, for sure. Not in this window, but we will. It is like it is and it’s not you should buy and sell, buy and sell.”
In his interview Teixeira expressed his frustration: “The team received one official offer from the club. It was rejected. I don’t know why. It was a great offer.I am trying to leave but the manager and club president don’t want me to.So now I’m just waiting. Trying to be patient. There’s only been one offer, I don’t know how many millions, and Shakhtar rejected it. The club refused and I’m trying everything possible for them to accept so that I can go to Liverpool.”
