– Metuh arrives for trial without handcuffs
– He arrived at the Federal High Court this morning for the continuation of his trial
For the first time since his trial began, Olisa Metuh, the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) walked into the court room without the presence of prisons officials and handcuffs.
Metuh arrived the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja this morning, for the continuation of his ongoing trial, Daily Post reports.
The PDP chieftain is facing a seven count charge of money laundering leveled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He is being accused of partaking in the sharing of the $2.1billion arms deal fund which was meant for the procurement of arms for the military but was diverted to other uses.
The anti-graft agency is accusing Metuh of collecting the sum of N400m from the former national security adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, who is at the centre of the arms deal scam.
He has however denied the allegation, saying the money he got was for a job he did for the former president, Goodluck Jonathan, though he failed to mention what kind of job.
After weeks of detention, Metuh was released i
His handcuffing during his appearance in court had generated backlash from members of the PDP, who have accused President Muhammadu Buhari of using the anti-corruption agencies and other institutions of state to subject accused persons like Metuh to inhuman treatment.
